First, a word about the campaign hardware. The new Dritz collection includes flat pieces and right angle pieces of hardware. All styles are available in multiple finishes and sizes, which are perfect for mixing and matching, and creating all kinds of eclectic looks.
When you are installing the campaign hardware, in addition to the hardware and your surface, these supplies come in handy:
Choose your surface: we’ve chosen to transform these basic wooden craft boxes. We’ve had this stackable set in our stash for awhile, and they are just begging for some love.
Paint boxes and let them dry completely.
Once the boxes are dry, plan your design using painter’s tape to hold the hardware pieces in place as you consider your options. Since we are working with two stackable boxes, we opted for a quatrefoil centerpiece and accents for the smaller box, and corner accents for the larger box.
Design tips: corner accents are easy to achieve – simply place hardware corners in the natural corners of your surface. For hardware that is perfectly centered (like the quatrefoils on the top box), use a tape measure to ensure even placement.
When your pieces are in their final position, use an awl to make pilot holes in the surface. This will make it easier to install the nails.
Use needle nose pliers to hold the nail straight in the pilot hole, and hammer gently with a rubber mallet. Take the tape off once all hardware pieces are secured with nails.
Voilà! This is the smaller box, with a centered quatrefoil design on its top.
See how cool they look when stacked … this is why it’s fun to play around with design options before you get started.
Consider the campaign hardware pieces to be like parts of a puzzle – move them around, and fit them together until you see something you just love. You’ve got so many design options!
Campaign hardware also looks great on store-bought frames. The application method is the same – tape in place, make pilot holes, install with nails. Here again, we used a combination of flat and right-angle corner pieces to achieve this look.
Admire from the front or the side …
Add glam to basic display cubes with gold campaign corners – here we alternated their placement on the various cubes for a personality boost!
So much fun! We’re kind of obsessed!
