A simple grommet sash adds huge impact.
That basic men’s dress shirt never looked so good, did it? It’s always delightful when something so understated is refashioned into a really powerful piece. This white men’s dress shirt is no exception. See how Laura from Trash to Couture shortened and altered this shirt, and then finished it off with that fantastic grommet sash. So simple. So incredibly stylish!
To get a feel for the complete refashion, check out the “before” shot of Laura wearing her husband’s old dress shirt.
Isn’t it fun that his boxy nondescript shirt is now her high-style top?
Grommets are so, so popular this season, and this sash really elevates a staple white button-up, don’t you think? Adding a sash to any outfit is a great figure-slimming detail, too.
And if that’s not your thing, how about wearing it as a neck tie? It’s an edgy update to a wardrobe basic.
Jump on over to Trash to Couture to see how Laura altered, and then made the sash for the shirt. (An Omnigrid® cutting station is clinch for these types of sewing and refashioning projects.)
The sash comes together using Dritz® 3/8″ fashion grommets. These grommets can be applied using either grommet pliers or a hand tool. We’ve got a YouTube video showing the pliers in action. (The hand tool is a great option if you are applying grommets to an area of fabric that can’t be reached with the pliers.)
Really love this top! See more Trash to Couture refashioning projects for Dritz® – Laura is a big fan of our grommets & eyelets, so they pop up frequently in her work.
