No-Sew Project: Make a Fabric Camera Strap

Dritz® supplies:

Omnigrid® supplies:

Other supplies:

  • 5” x 40” piece of cotton fabric in a print and color of your choice
  • 5” x 5” piece of faux leather that matches your cotton print
  • Iron and pressing surface
  • E6000® permanent craft adhesive glue
  • 2” x 40” piece of Heat’n Bond® heavy duty iron-on adhesive

How to Use the Dritz Ezy-Hem for Perfect Hems 1) Cut the fabric and Heat’n Bond® iron-on adhesive to the sizes noted in the supply list.

2) Press a 1/2” hem on all sides using the Ezy-Hem® gauge.

Hemming in Progress 3) Fuse the Heat’n Bond® iron-on adhesive to half of the strap fabric, on the wrong side of fabric, making sure to go all the way to the edge. Remove the paper backing.

Fusing Fabric 4) Fold the other edge of the strap fabric over and align edges. Fuse with iron to connect the two sides.

This will make a 40” strap that is 2” wide.

Tracing Template 5) Cut 2 hourglass shapes from faux leather piece using our pattern.

Add Dritz Swivel Hook 6) Slide hourglass shape into the swivel hook ring, wrong side up, until swivel hook is in the middle. Pinch one end of fabric strap and slide through the ring until about 1” of fabric is through the ring. Fold both fabrics over the swivel hook ring and align edges.

Add Leather Piece to Strap 7) Glue edges together using E6000®. Place something heavy on top and let the glue dry completely.

8) Repeat on other end of strap.

Add Dritz Rivets to Strap 9) Once dry, apply 4 double-cap rivets in a square shape onto your faux leather pieces. Check out these tips to apply Dritz® double-cap rivets, or watch our YouTube video to see how to apply.
