Super easy & comfy with Cuddle.
There are certain products that just go hand in hand: Dritz® fold-over elastic and soft Cuddle fabrics are two of them! Today we’re going to show you how easy it is to finish the edges of Cuddle or fleece/plush fabrics with colorful fold-over elastic (also called FOE) using three different sewing methods. Use these easy techniques when making baby items (blankets & lovies), scarves and more.
First, a bit on the two featured products. Fold-over elastic is a woven elastic that has a center indentation where it is designed to be folded in half (hence the name “fold-over” or FOE). The Dritz range includes elastic that is 1/2″, 5/8″ and 1″ in width. Check out all the super cute patterns and prints here.

For all methods below, use a ballpoint needle, size 90/14.

Method 1: Rounded corners with a wide zigzag stitch.Use a bowl and disappearing ink pen to trace a curved edge at each corner of your fabric. Cut corners off with scissors. |

Pin FOE over the raw edge of fabric and stretch very slightly. Stitch down the center of FOE with a 3-step or wide zigzag stitch. Use a stiletto to help feed FOE under your presser foot.TIP: Reduce presser foot pressure when sewing elastic or stretchy fabric. It will help the elastic to stay under the foot and not get pushed forward. |

Repeat the above stitching on all four corners.Like how this looks? The FOE shown here is melon with Mod Dot Cuddle. |

Method 2: Square mitered corners.Stitch the FOE onto one side of the fabric using a narrow zigzag stitch. Stitch right up to the edge of the next side of the fabric, but do not stitch beyond the fabric. |

Fold the loose FOE over the next edge, forming a 45º miter fold at the corner. Pin the FOE in place. Stitch from the fold to the next edge as before. |

Method 3: Rounded corners with a long straight stitch. Follow the same instructions as in method 1 above, but note that with the straight stitch you will not get any stretch.The FOE shown here is multi-color chevron with Cuddle Fuchsia. |
