Celebrate weddings, birthdays and anything fun!
Do you have some fall celebrations on the horizon? If so, why not commemorate them with a DIY bunting collage, made one-of-a-kind with your favorite personal photos and sayings. They are easy to make! You’ll use the template provided to make the burlap flags, and then you’ll iron on your printed inkjet fabric. Use grommets and cord to hang the bunting – now that’s some really dynamite party decor!
Gather the following sewing supplies:
- Dritz® iron-on inkjet printable fabric
- 6″ x 8-1/2″ piece of burlap, per flag (total amount of burlap you need will vary depending upon how many flags you make)
- Dritz® large eyelet kit
- Omnigrid® rotary cutter, ruler & mat
- Sewing machine
- Fabric pen/marker
- Scissors
- Inkjet printer
- Printed flag template (PDF)
- Iron
- Hammer
- Dritz® Fray Check™ liquid seam sealant
- Dritz® Home 3/16″ cable cord (or other rope/twine for hanging)

1) Print and cut out your template. 2) Using the rotary cutter, ruler and mat, cut all your burlap pieces to 6″ wide x 8-1/2″ tall. 3) Place the paper template on top of the burlap pieces, trace the bottom angle with your marker, and cut. |

4) Zigzag stitch 1/4″ around the entire flag. |

5) Pull the loose threads as shown to give the flag a soft, frayed look. (Repeat steps 4-5 for each flag.) |

6) Following the instructions on the inkjet fabric package, print your photos and designs, and iron them onto the burlap flags as desired. |

7) To apply the grommets, mark where you want the center hole for the grommet to be. Then, with the tip of your scissors, snip the weave just at that point. |

8) Apply Fray Check™. Burlap has a very loose weave, so you don’t want it to unravel and more than necessary. |

9) Position the front piece of the grommet on the base from the eyelet kit. |

10) Lay the fabric face down, with the prepped hole over the base in step 9. 11) Put the back piece on top, and hammer with the eyelet tool provided in the kit. |

12) When applied, this is what the eyelet will look like. You can cut away the extra burlap, but it will be on the back of your bunting. (Repeat steps 7-12 until grommets are applied to each flag.) 13) Now you’re ready to string up your bunting with cable cord, or other ribbon, twine or rope. |
