Print and cut out the pattern provided. Tape the pieces together along the dashed lines.

Using the pattern, cut 2 pieces of fabric for each: stocking, lining and batting.

For the hang tab, cut a piece of fabric 1-1/4″ x 4″ long. Double fold the 2 outer edges in toward the center crease and topstitch.

Sew the batting to the wrong side of the stocking fabric. Trim excess batting from the seam allowance.

With right sides together (feet the same direction), sew a lining piece to a stocking piece by stitching across the top.

After both sets are assembled, lay the 4 pieces flat like this, with right sides together. Stitch all the way around with a 1/2″ seam allowance – leave a 4″ opening in the back seam of the lining.

Fold the lining side over on top of the stocking side and pin. Fold up the top of the 4″ opening – don’t stitch closed.

Sew the layers together starting at the 4″ opening. Work your way around the boot, and stop 1/2″ from the opposite top corner.

Trim the seam allowance 1/4″ and snip the curve on the front every 1/4″.

Turn it right side out through the opening and stitch the lining closed.

After you’ve constructed your lined stocking, you can embellish as desired. If clean and modern is your look, you’re done. If you want more texture and detail, add embellishments. We raided our sewing basket for extra supplies and adorned our stockings with them! Look back at the lead photo for ideas and inspiration. Cover buttons make a nice addition. Elastics and tape measures are a creative alternative to ribbon.

Let us know what kind ideas you came up with for your stockings! We’d love for you to tell us about your fabric choices and the embellishments you used. We like crazy and unique!
