You look fantastic.
Have you checked out the huge selection of Dritz elastics and buckles in the sewing department? If not, put that on your to-do list next time you’re at the fabric store – we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Perfect for summer, you’ll find bright polka dots, stripes and animal prints, not to mention a wide variety of colorful solids. And don’t forget the buckles – they’re pretty cool, too. These belts are super easy to make – a great idea to combat the summer doldrums and add a great pop of color to your wardrobe at the same time. Dritz elastic – what’s your flavor?
You’ll only need a few supplies for these belts:
- Dritz® elastic of your choice – we used 1″ patterned fold-over elastic
- Dritz® buckle(s) of your choice
- Dritz® Fray Check™ – to seal the cut ends of elastic
- Dritz® tape measure
- Needle & thread, or sewing machine
First, measure your waist and cut a length of elastic to this measurement. HINT: If you want your belt to fit snugly, subtract 1-2″ from your waist measurement.
Apply Fray Check™ to both cut ends of elastic.
Loop ends of elastic through your belt buckle.
Stitch by hand or with a machine zigzag stitch.
Voilà! Like your work of art? It sure is cute!
So that’s all there is to it. These belts truly are easy to make, and the fun part is not only picking out which elastics and buckles you’ll use, but wearing them, of course! They’re great for kids, too. Got some bored teens or tweens on your hands this summer? This is a great beginner sewing project that you can help them with. Also super for slumber and birthday parties.
