Easy sewing for your dapper dude.
So, I’m a bit of a proud mom, but the bow ties and suspenders are pretty cute, too, right? I absolutely love the new Dritz® sewing supplies that make these accessories even easier to make. The new Dritz® bow tie set has the hardware you need to make adjustable ties. New suspender clips and slide adjusters provide more options for you when making suspenders (or straps for bags and totes). Fun stuff for spring occasions and celebrations!
The handy new bow tie set includes 3 parts for making a 5/8″ adjustable strap: a slide adjuster, a hook and an eye. Instructions for sewing a traditional bow tie can be found here. Each tie uses approximately 1/4- to 3/8-yard of fabric.
When choosing the fabric for your bow ties, you can use lightweight fabric but remember the interfacing. It adds body and strength to the fabric; apply interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric. (We used gingham and quilting fabrics for these ties.)
We loved these heavier weight denim fabrics, so we decided to give them a try, too. No interfacing is needed, as they’ve got enough weight to stand up nicely on their own. (The floral tie actually turned out to be our favorite!)
His outfit isn’t complete without suspenders! New suspender clips with black and white round fronts give you more design options. Clips in standard nickel and gilt color are also available. New slide adjusters fit Dritz® 1″ knit elastic, fabric or strapping. Suspender instructions are here.
Tell me you don’t just love these? Suspenders and bow ties really are the perfect pair, aren’t they? And isn’t it nice to discover some fun and colorful accessories for boys to wear?! Finally!!
Sure, I am biased, but I love little guy flair! What kinds of accessories do you DIY for your little dude? Let us know! We’d love to hear your ideas!
(PS – although we’ve focused on boys here, we’re working on little girl ties & suspenders next … more cuteness in progress!!)
