Jennifer Mathis: Maker Profile & Project Round Up

14 pretty sewing projects for home, fashion and function.

If I had to list the best three things about this job, it would be these, and in this order: the people, the people and the people. When we look at lovely fabrics or clever projects it’s easy to get wrapped up in the thing, the end result that’s at hand. But let’s talk about those faces! Here’s one of our favorites – meet Jennifer Mathis, y’all!

My name is Jennifer Mathis, and I am a maker. Chances are, you are a maker too. There is something so satisfying about creating and making something where there once was nothing.

There’s magic in taking individual parts and putting them together to make a whole. Whether you’re working with paint, wood, clay or fabric, creating something beautiful and useful is satisfying and wonderful.

I design, blog and share my creations at EllisonLane.com. I’m so passionate about making and inspiring others to create that I host a sewing retreat for the sole purpose of doing just that for an entire weekend. Sew South Retreats embrace the joy of making and give us all a chance to create with others away from the demands of daily life.

It’s easy to be explore ideas when you have the tools you need. And for me, the most important aspect to remember when making is to find the joy in the process. Create because it makes you happy. Being a maker is a beautiful thing.

Jennifer Mathis is a regular contributor to our blog, and you can see all of her projects here. We’re so lucky to work with this wonderful maker!
