Easy-to-Sew: Gift Card Wallets

Handmade wallet + gift card = winning the “best gift-giver” award.

Are there folks on your list who really want gift cards? If you’re feeling like that’s a bit impersonal, why not make a handcrafted wallet to hold the card? It’s really a win-win situation. They get the cash they want, plus something a bit more thoughtful. This is a beginner sewing project, so it’s easy to knock out several of these beauties in an hour or so. Lots of variations, too, depending on the Dritz® fasteners you choose. Come on!

Things to love about this wallet:

We think this wallet is really handsome, and just dig the fastener situation. How we did it: on the front flaps of the wallet, we used Dritz® double-cap rivets to apply faux leather tabs.  Our small D-ring/swivel hook hardware set is used to provide the fastening mechanism that opens/closes the wallet.

Yes, please. So … the fabric sort of steals the show on this one. But that sew-on snap is a really nice complement. They are easy to apply, and look especially nice with a contrasting thread.

Do you see the frogs on these two card wallets? They make really classy closures. (If you’re confused, a frog is a fastener made of ornamental braiding consisting of a button and loop.)

We hand stitched the gold one on using transparent thread, and the black one with double-cap rivets (my those things are handy!). Really well done if we do say so ourselves!

So, those gift cards are beginning to look a lot better, aren’t they? When housed in a handcrafted wallet, they make mighty fine gifts.
