Easy Crafts: DIY Cover Button Earrings

Wear them well.

Sassy or sweet – it’s your choice depending upon which fabric you choose. To make these cover button earrings, you’ll use a combination of sewing supplies and earring findings. Your fabric choice is what will give them personality and punch. So, do you have a bunch of scrap fabrics begging to be used? Not for long – this is a great scrap-busting project! Custom earrings make thoughtful gifts, too. Let’s get making, shall we?

You’ll need these supplies:

Choose a Dritz® cover button template to match your cover button size and trace around the outside of the template, centering your fabric’s design motif inside of the template’s inner circle (if applicable). Cut out the fabric circle.

You’ll need to remove the shank from the cover button before you begin. To remove the shank, squeeze the wires together and pull it out.

Push the fabric into the cover button. Refer to our PDF for full instructions on using Dritz® cover buttons and to learn about the different styles of buttons that are available.

NOTE: we used cover buttons with “teeth” to make these earrings, as you can see in the picture.

Push the earring post into the cover button. TIP: we used a dot of Liquid Stitch™ original fabric glue underneath the post (optional).

Apply the back piece or frame of the earring findings on top of the earring post to secure the post inside of the button.

That’s it! Wear them or give them as you please. Did you have fun making them? Tell us about it. We really would love to hear from you.
