The Dritz® Ezy-Hem® gauge is a measuring tool that is made of lightweight, durable metal that will not warp or rust. It is 8 ¾” long with hem depth measurements up to 4”. The hem markings are heat and moisture resistant and printed on both sides for straight or curved hems. You can use it for a variety of sewing projects.

For straight hems: use the straight edge to turn up hems. Finish the raw edge of the hem. On the wrong side of fabric, place Ezy-Hem® gauge near the hem. Fold up hem edge to the measurement matching the desired depth. Press hem edge with iron.

For curved hems: turn the edge of the hem under ¼” or finish with serger. Using curved edge of the Ezy-Hem® gauge, fold up hem to desired depth and press just the bottom of the hem. Rotate gauge as needed to match curve of hem.

Tip for curved hems: your hem will be a little too full to lay flat. Baste stitch around edge of hem. Draw up basting threads to ease in fullness. Press.

For making pockets: turn under seam allowances of curved or straight pocket edges. Just press and the pockets are ready to stitch in place.

Tip for shortening sewing patterns: crease the pattern on alteration line. Use gauge to press in tuck for shortening.

For lined or turned projects: press down the seam allowances on the opening. Align the edge of the gauge with the stitching on either side of the opening. Press down one side of the seam allowance. Turn project over and press the other seam allowance down. Turn project right side out and the seam allowances are already pressed creating a smooth opening. Makes opening almost invisible!

Is your Ezy-Hem® too hot to handle? Attach a ruler handle or wear thermal thimbles when moving gauge to a new section of the hem.
