The size and markings of the Omnigrid 2-1/2″ x 8″ ruler make it easy to cut 5″ charm squares. First, its 2-1/2″ width makes it perfect for cutting charm squares in half. You can also align the 45° angle marking of this ruler to cut charm squares in half on the diagonal. Throw it in your bag and take it to a class – it’s modestly sized overall, and easy to take with you.
If you’re an avid class-goer, you know that longer rulers are nice to have, but difficult to transport. Omnigrid folding rulers to the rescue! Their edges are perfectly aligned for smooth cutting along the entire length of the ruler, and each is hinged and ready for packing. There are two sizes available.
The extra long 4″ x 36″ folding ruler is perfect for squaring edges of up to 60″ wide fabric. It is also ideal for squaring a finished quilt top or cutting long bias strips.
The 4″ x 18″ ruler is the largest Omngrid ruler with a full 1/8″ grid pattern. The 1/8″ grid pattern is important because it’s got continuous 1/8″ markings in both directions. These markings come in handy for miniature quilts and Seminole patchwork. It includes 30°, 45°, and 60° angle lines.
Now this is clever. This 1-1/2″ x 12″ Omnigrip ruler has both centering measurements and continuous measurements. Use the centering measurements to help position appliqués or other motifs and embellishments precisely on a garment or quilt. This ruler also includes 1/8″ and 1/4″ seam allowance markings. Non-slip highlighting ink helps keep the ruler in place, too.
Wow. Now that’s an impressive rotary cutter. This 60mm Omnigrid rotary cutter boasts all the standard Omingrid cutting features – it’s just got a larger blade. Its generous size makes it a little easier to cut through more layers of fabric or thicker fabrics. However, as is commonly the case with quilting tools, it really comes down to preference. Don’t miss the replacement blades.
For the safest and most accurate cutting, it is important to always use a blade that is sharp and without nicks. This rotary blade sharpener helps to eliminate the dull spots on your blade, prolonging its life. Use the coarse tan side to smooth damaged blade edges. The fine gray side will sharpen a dull blade, making it razor sharp again. It’s a good idea to give your blade a quick sharpening before each use!
