Use simple details with big impact to transform your clothes.
In preparation for NY Fashion Week last month, our guest blogger Laura made this eyelet embellished top, and we just had to share. It’s so simple, but wow, doesn’t it look great? She added a combination of sizes of Dritz eyelets to the collar of her top, transforming a basic white button-up into a real statement piece. Little details with big impact – see how!
The supply list for this refashion is quite short: you need a combination of Dritz eyelets and the tools to apply them, a marking pen, and the garment you want to embellish.
If want to copy this top exactly, the eyelets shown are the small 2-part nickel and hand tool, and the extra-large eyelets and hand tool. You can emulate this look but mix up the finishes and sizes even more by using any combination of our Dritz grommets/eyelets – the choice is yours!
Check out Laura’s full embellished collar refashioning tutorial for detailed application tips. Essentially, you’ll plan and mark the placement of the eyelets, cut the holes for each, and insert the eyelet tops in place, then install.
Watch this video to see how the 2-part eyelets are installed. Watch this video if you are using larger eyelets that can be applied with pliers. (Refer to the packaging instructions or the website item page for your specific eyelet style to determine if they apply with a hand tool, pliers, or both.)
This basic button-up isn’t so basic any more, now is it? We love the look, and think it was a perfect choice for NY Fashion Week! Check out all of our grommets/eyelets projects, more refashioning ideas, and all of the great content from our fashion blogger Laura at Trash To Couture.
