1) Follow the instructions on the chalkboard patch to “season” the chalkboard surface.

2) Remove the paper backing and press the patch onto the wrong side of your fabric. This will give your tag a decorative touch (it will be chalkboard on one side for personalizing, and fabric on the other).

Trim the excess fabric from around the patch.

3) Print and cut out the pumpkin pattern. Working fabric side up, position and trace the pumpkins with your fabric pen (4 pumpkins will fit on the 6″ x 6″ piece of fabric). Cut out the pumpkin tags.

4) Carefully make a hole in the stem of each tag with your awl.

5) Cut the twist cord into a 4″ length. Unravel it until you have single strands. Using the tweezers to help, insert a single strand through the hole in the pumpkin stem and tie a knot to secure.

6) Repeat until you’ve made all of the tags needed. Personalize with chalkboard pens or chalk.

Want to make your own napkins, too? Here’s an easy-sew tutorial – this is great because you get to use the fabric of your choice. To finish up, simply slide the tags through ribbon or elastic on napkins.
