Easy Crafts: DIY Jewelry Ensemble Using Sewing Snaps

You can never have too much bling.

If you wear jewelry every day, then you can never have too many pieces, now can you? That’s my theory at least. So when this jewelry set came across my desk, I was super excited.  Easy to make. Fun to wear. A fraction of the cost of a store-bought collection.  Learn some skills that you can easily apply to necklaces, earrings, rings – all cleverly made with modest sewing snaps, a few basic jewelry supplies, and your own creative flair, of course!

Each snap has a front and a back. Start by separating all of the snaps and arranging them on your work space as shown.

Using two sets of pliers, twist open 13 of the large jump rings.

Insert one ring in the 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock holes in five of the large snap tops (shown in pink in the diagram).

On the sixth large snap top, insert a ring in the 2, 6 and 10 o’clock holes (shown in blue in the diagram).

To finish the necklace’s centerpiece, twist open eight more small jump rings and “connect” all of the large snaps.  Each of the eight “connections” should have two large jump rings and one small jump ring in the middle.

Assemble the chain, fastener and finished centerpiece with small jump rings.

Create the earrings using the same method as the necklace. Use one small and one large ring to attach the earring hook to the size 10 snap, then connect each to a 30mm snap with one large jump ring.

To create the ring for your finger, glue one size 10 snap front to the ring base.
