Ideas and tips for some really cool wall decor.
You must know that gallery walls are the thing right now, and we’ve got some project ideas and tips to help you DIY some really fabulous looks. The best thing about these projects is that they are quick, easy and inexpensive. Most of materials you’ll use to make these pieces come right from your stash of fabrics and sewing supplies.
The appeal of this wall hanging is its simplicity. You can craft it to be as large – or as petite – as you’d like, making it the perfect candidate for many spaces in your home.
Check your fabric stash and pull together a look that works for your space. We used a combination of felt, suede and canvas materials. The Dritz eyelets form the openings for the strings to go through, and add weight so that the strings hang straight. The stick we picked up in the front yard! See more construction details here.
We love all the textures in this wall hanging. To achieve this look we simply hung strips of cord, yarn, fabric and leather from a stick.
Some of the fabric and leather strips were embellished with Dritz grommets and rivets before they were hung from the stick. It’s the weight and heft of these materials that really adds a unique look to this type of wall hanging. (It’s also a great way to use random fasteners and hardware pieces you might have in your stash – get creative with supplies you have on hand and making one of these won’t cost you a cent!)
Don’t forget the framed pieces! Fabric scraps are transformed into works of art when they’re housed inside floating frames.
Take a look through your fabric stash – you might be surprised at the gems that are hiding there. Any size will do!
If you want to go take your fabric scraps a step further, why not try some paper piecing? We used Dritz paper piecing shapes to make these hexies (some from an old pair of jeans). Talk about one-of-a kind!
To make a gallery wall, mix and match framed pieces and wall hangings at random. Greenery is always a nice touch, as is mini macramé and dimensional items (like the 3 small hanging pots).
Are you ready to get started? Your gallery wall awaits!
